Our story
Carbon60 started out in 1999 as an infrastructure and security consulting company in Toronto, evolving into a managed hosting service provider. In 2019, we joined forces with GT.net in Vancouver and Cirrus9 in Saint John, N.B., both of which are managed hosting service providers with similar roots — deepening our regional and national coverage to serve Canadian enterprises.
In 2021, we acquired OpsGuru, an award-winning multi-cloud consultancy, to help our customers adopt cloud technologies, modernize their workflows to cloud-native designs and secure and optimize their systems. And with OpsGuru’s pre-built infrastructure-as-code templates using the signature Cloud Launchpad service, we can expedite your cloud migration from months to weeks.
We now employ more than 160 people, including certified cloud consultants and engineers across AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, as well as a team of experts in Kubernetes — to help clients at any point on their cloud transformation journey.
What’s in a name? A lot.
The discovery of the Carbon60 molecule, or C60, was a scientific landmark opening up new fields of research into carbon nano-structures with extraordinary strength and conductive properties. Three remarkable properties of C60, a geodesic sphere known as a “Buckyball,” are its stability, flexibility and efficiency.
Due to its shape and the strength of the bonds between carbon atoms, the C60 molecule is the strongest and most stable molecule in the universe, along with diamonds. But, unlike diamonds, C60 is flexible like a soccer ball. There’s also an efficiency to its shape — analogous to the elegant architecture of geodesic domes popularized by Buckminster Fuller and from which the term “Buckyball” is derived.
These characteristics are equally important to the successful delivery of enterprise-class IT services: an ultra-reliable service with the flexibility to remain agile and secure.
